New Delhi, February 19: India and France on Wednesday jointly launched the Indo-French Centre for Artificial Intelligence in Health at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), marking a significant step in bilateral cooperation in healthcare innovation and digital technology.
The centre was inaugurated in the presence of Emmanuel Macron and Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda during high-level academic and scientific engagements between the two countries.
The Indo-French Centre aims to promote joint research, innovation, and clinical applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare. It will focus on areas such as neuro-disorders, brain research, AI-assisted diagnostics, public health systems, and medical data analytics.
The initiative has been established under a Memorandum of Understanding between AIIMS New Delhi and leading French institutions, including Sorbonne University and the Paris Brain Institute. The collaboration is expected to strengthen interdisciplinary research, faculty exchange, and student mobility between India and France.
Speaking on the occasion, President Macron emphasised the importance of developing trusted and sovereign AI systems that serve humanity while ensuring ethical standards and transparency. He highlighted that global cooperation in AI research must prioritise healthcare accessibility and equitable innovation.
Union Minister Nadda stated that the centre would help accelerate India’s digital health transformation and support the development of AI-driven solutions for complex medical challenges. He added that the collaboration reflects the deepening strategic partnership between India and France.
The launch is part of broader academic and scientific engagements aimed at enhancing research collaboration and strengthening educational ties between the two nations.
The Indo-French Centre for AI in Health is expected to serve as a platform for innovation, capacity building, and long-term cooperation in emerging healthcare technologies.
