The Delhi government has proposed merging three major government hospitals in East Delhi to create a larger integrated medical hub aimed at improving access to specialised treatment and streamlining healthcare services in the region.
Officials said the plan is intended to bring multiple medical services under one administrative and clinical framework, allowing better use of infrastructure, specialists and medical equipment. The move is also expected to reduce the pressure on existing tertiary care facilities in the capital by strengthening hospital capacity in East Delhi.
Alongside the merger proposal, the government has indicated that the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences will be further developed as a leading centre for mental health treatment and research. The plan includes expanding clinical services, improving training facilities and strengthening psychiatric care infrastructure.
Health department officials said the broader objective is to build a comprehensive medical ecosystem in the area that supports treatment, teaching and research. The initiative is also expected to address the growing demand for specialised mental health services in Delhi.
The proposal is currently under administrative review and further details on the implementation framework are expected to be announced after consultations with the concerned departments and hospital authorities.
