Gurgaon has begun a focused human papillomavirus vaccination campaign aimed at immunising around 10,000 adolescent girls over the next three months, as part of the wider public health effort in Haryana ahead of the national HPV rollout scheduled to start this weekend.
Health officials said the drive, organised through government health centres and school health teams, is intended to increase awareness about HPV vaccination and improve early uptake among the target age group. The vaccination campaign follows the state receiving an initial batch of vaccine doses and represents one of the early phase activities leading up to the planned nationwide immunisation programme.
Authorities highlighted that the vaccine protects against strains of the human papillomavirus associated with cervical cancer and other related illnesses. Teams have been deployed across urban and rural areas to ensure smooth implementation and to counsel parents and guardians on the benefits and safety of the vaccine.
Officials also noted that strengthening community engagement remains a priority, given the importance of parental consent and informed choice. The three month timeline reflects a phased approach to managing logistics and monitoring coverage before the larger scale launch of the programme.
The city initiative is seen as a preparatory step in reinforcing preventive health measures, with the aim of reducing the long term burden of HPV related disease.
