The Indian Council of Medical Research has initiated a multi centre study to examine the long term health effects of Covid 19 among recovered patients in India. The research aims to better understand the condition commonly referred to as long Covid, where individuals continue to experience symptoms weeks or months after recovering from the initial infection.
According to officials involved in the project, the study will track patients across several hospitals and medical institutions to document persistent symptoms such as fatigue, breathing difficulties, neurological issues and cardiovascular complications. Researchers will also analyse how factors such as age, existing health conditions and severity of infection influence recovery patterns.
The study is expected to generate data that could help doctors design improved treatment and rehabilitation strategies for patients experiencing prolonged symptoms. Health experts have pointed out that while most patients recover completely, a section continues to face lingering health problems that affect their quality of life.
Officials said the findings from the study will contribute to strengthening clinical guidelines and public health strategies to manage long term complications linked to Covid 19 in India.
