The Mysuru district administration has begun a targeted HPV vaccination campaign aimed at protecting adolescent girls from cervical cancer, one of the most common cancers affecting women in India.
Health authorities said the drive will focus on girls aged 14 to below 15 years and will be carried out across government primary health centres, community health centres and taluk hospitals in the district. The campaign forms part of a broader push to strengthen preventive healthcare and expand immunisation coverage among adolescents.
Officials said registrations and records for the vaccination programme will be managed through the government’s U-WIN digital platform, which is designed to track immunisation data and issue digital vaccination certificates. Health workers and local officials have also been asked to conduct awareness efforts to ensure higher participation from families.
Medical experts note that the HPV vaccine plays a critical role in preventing infections caused by the human papillomavirus, a major contributor to cervical cancer. Public health officials believe that sustained vaccination coverage could significantly reduce the long term burden of the disease.
The district health department said it will continue monitoring the campaign closely while coordinating with schools, local health centres and community workers to ensure that eligible girls receive the vaccine in the coming weeks.
