The North Western Railway has launched a three dimensional mental health support model aimed at addressing stress, anxiety, and work related pressures among its employees. The initiative, introduced at the zonal level, marks a structured move to place mental wellbeing alongside physical safety in railway operations.
Officials said the model works on three levels. The first focuses on awareness and early identification of mental health concerns through sensitisation sessions and regular interaction with staff. The second level provides access to professional counselling and psychological support, including referrals where required. The third level looks at sustained follow up, peer support, and workplace interventions to prevent relapse and improve overall morale.
Senior railway officials noted that operational staff often work under high pressure conditions, long hours, and irregular schedules, making mental health support critical. By institutionalising this framework, the zone aims to create a safer and more supportive work environment.
The programme will be implemented across divisions under the Jaipur headquartered zone, with officers and supervisors trained to recognise warning signs and guide employees towards appropriate help. The initiative also aligns with broader efforts within Indian Railways to strengthen employee welfare and productivity through preventive care.
Railway authorities said the model would be reviewed periodically and refined based on feedback, with the goal of making mental health care accessible, confidential, and stigma free for all staff.
