Jaipur: In a move signalling tighter scrutiny of public health expenditure, the Rajasthan government has suspended seven doctors for the alleged fraudulent misuse of the Rajasthan Government Health Scheme (RGHS). The action follows an audit that flagged irregularities in claims filed under the state-funded health insurance programme for government employees and pensioners.
Authorities have also registered First Information Reports (FIRs) against a private nursing home and a diagnostic centre accused of raising fake bills and submitting unauthorised diagnostic claims under the scheme. Officials allege that inflated or fabricated treatment records were used to claim reimbursements, resulting in financial losses to the exchequer.
The crackdown comes amid growing concerns over accountability in publicly financed health schemes, where expanding coverage has also widened the scope for misuse. The RGHS was designed to ensure cashless and affordable healthcare access for beneficiaries, but enforcement agencies now suggest that monitoring mechanisms require strengthening.
State officials have indicated that further inquiries are underway and that additional action may follow if more discrepancies surface. The episode underscores the delicate balance between expanding healthcare access and ensuring financial integrity within publicly funded insurance frameworks.
