Hyderabad: The inauguration of the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences facility at Sanathnagar has been deferred, with authorities citing pending infrastructure work and gaps in staffing.
The hospital, part of the state’s plan to expand access to super-specialty care, was expected to ease pressure on existing government facilities in Hyderabad. However, officials indicated that key components, including equipment installation and human resource deployment, are yet to be completed.
The delay points to broader challenges in scaling up public healthcare capacity, particularly in ensuring that new institutions are fully operational at launch. Sources said the revised timeline is intended to allow the facility to begin services without disruption.
Once functional, the Sanathnagar unit is expected to play a critical role in delivering advanced treatment at subsidised rates, while also strengthening referral systems within the state’s healthcare network.
The postponement, though temporary, underscores the importance of readiness in large-scale public health projects where demand is immediate and sustained.
