The Telangana government is set to introduce a digital health profile system aimed at creating a centralised record of patients’ medical histories, a move that officials say will help improve diagnosis and continuity of care in public health facilities.
The pilot project will begin in Sangareddy district, where residents’ health records will be compiled into a digital database accessible to authorised doctors and healthcare providers. The system is expected to include information such as previous treatments, prescriptions, laboratory reports and chronic disease history.
Health department officials said the initiative will help doctors access patient information quickly, particularly in emergency situations where prior medical history can influence treatment decisions.
Authorities also believe the platform could support better disease surveillance and planning by enabling the government to track patterns of illnesses and healthcare utilisation across districts.
If the pilot proves effective, the digital health profile system may be expanded to other parts of the state as part of a broader effort to strengthen technology driven healthcare management in Telangana.
