Hospitals increase preparedness as experts stress early action during extreme temperatures
Heat-related illnesses remained a major health concern in Rajasthan as doctors urged residents to recognise early signs of heat exhaustion and seek timely medical attention.
Healthcare professionals said many people mistake symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, unusual fatigue and muscle cramps as routine summer discomfort. However, these signs can indicate dehydration or heat exhaustion, which may progress into serious heatstroke if ignored.
Rajasthan’s health department has been reviewing hospital preparedness, including the availability of ORS, cooling facilities, emergency medicines and dedicated arrangements for heat-related cases. Authorities have also assessed ambulance readiness and hospital response systems during periods of extreme temperatures.
Doctors noted that outdoor workers, elderly people, children and those with heart-related conditions remain among the most vulnerable groups during heatwaves. Extreme heat can place additional strain on the heart and increase the risk of serious health complications.
What Doctors Are Advising
Healthcare experts recommend:
- Drink water regularly, even before feeling thirsty
- Carry ORS or electrolyte drinks during long outdoor exposure
- Avoid direct sunlight during afternoon hours
- Wear loose, light-coloured clothing
- Seek medical help for dizziness, confusion, fainting or persistent weakness
Medical professionals stressed that heatstroke is a medical emergency and early intervention can significantly reduce health risks.
As temperatures remain high across parts of Rajasthan, heatwave awareness and prevention are expected to remain key public health priorities.
