On the occasion of National Doctors’ Day 2026, the United Doctors Front (UDF), in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, organised the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2026 at Government Medical College, Amritsar. The event introduced the “Fit Bharat – Hit Bharat” initiative, focusing on the physical and mental well-being of doctors while encouraging greater youth participation in strengthening India’s healthcare system.
The programme brought together doctors, healthcare administrators, medical students and young professionals to discuss challenges faced by the medical community, including workplace stress, burnout, long working hours and the need for improved work-life balance. Experts highlighted that supporting healthcare professionals is essential for delivering quality patient care and building a resilient healthcare system.
Medical professionals emphasised that the health of doctors directly influences the efficiency of healthcare services. Regular fitness, mental health support, stress management programmes and institutional wellness initiatives were identified as key measures to reduce burnout and improve overall healthcare delivery.
The dialogue also encouraged young professionals to actively contribute to public health through innovation, community outreach and preventive healthcare awareness. Speakers noted that collaboration between healthcare workers, educational institutions and policymakers can strengthen the country’s healthcare infrastructure while preparing future medical leaders.
Healthcare experts stressed that investing in doctors’ well-being ultimately benefits patients by improving clinical decision-making, reducing fatigue-related errors and enhancing the overall quality of medical care. Wellness programmes for healthcare workers are increasingly being recognised as an important component of sustainable public health systems.
The initiative aligns with India’s broader vision of Viksit Bharat, where healthier healthcare professionals contribute to stronger healthcare services and improved national health outcomes. Organisers also highlighted the importance of promoting physical fitness and preventive health practices among both medical professionals and the wider community.
As India continues to modernise its healthcare ecosystem, initiatives such as Fit Bharat – Hit Bharat underline the growing recognition that caring for healthcare workers is essential to building a healthier nation. The programme serves as a reminder that supporting doctors’ physical and mental well-being remains a key pillar of quality healthcare
