Mahajan Imaging, Neuberg Diagnostics Join Hands to Expand Advanced Diagnostics Across North India

India’s diagnostics sector is entering a new phase, with organised players increasingly moving beyond routine pathology towards genomics, specialised testing and integrated healthcare services.

In the latest development, Mahajan Imaging & Labs and Neuberg Diagnostics have formed a strategic joint venture to expand pathology, genomics and wellness services across North India. The partnership brings together Mahajan Imaging’s presence and diagnostic expertise in the region with Neuberg’s capabilities in pathology and genomic testing.

The joint venture comes as demand for more specialised diagnostics grows across India’s healthcare system. Diagnostic testing is becoming increasingly important in preventive healthcare, early disease detection and treatment planning, particularly as clinicians use information from multiple sources to make decisions.

Dr Harsh Mahajan, Founder and Chairman of Mahajan Imaging & Labs, said modern clinical decisions increasingly require imaging, pathology, molecular testing and genomics to be considered together. According to the company, the partnership is intended to add scale, infrastructure and expertise to these capabilities.

The venture also reflects a wider shift in India’s diagnostics market. Traditional laboratory testing is increasingly being supplemented by wellness screening, genetic testing, molecular diagnostics and other specialised services. According to ICRA estimates cited by The Economic Times, organised diagnostic companies could record 12% to 14% revenue growth in FY2027, supported by wellness testing, specialised services and greater penetration into non-metro markets.

For North India, the development could be particularly relevant as healthcare providers seek to expand access to advanced testing outside major metropolitan centres. Diagnostics can play an important role in reducing delays in identifying disease, supporting treatment decisions and enabling preventive healthcare.

The joint venture’s immediate priorities include strengthening pathology and genomics capabilities, improving sample collection and logistics, integrating digital systems and reducing turnaround times. Kabir Mahajan, who will lead the joint venture, said technology and artificial intelligence could also support quality control, workflow management and reporting as the network expands.

The focus on turnaround time is significant. As diagnostic networks become larger, the challenge is not simply adding more centres. Efficient sample movement, laboratory processing, digital reporting and consistent quality become essential to maintaining patient confidence.

The partnership also fits into the broader consolidation taking place in India’s organised diagnostics industry. Larger networks are looking to build scale while expanding into specialised testing and new geographical markets. Recent activity across the sector has included expansion into radiology, genomics and integrated diagnostic models.

Neuberg Diagnostics has also been developing its integrated diagnostics capabilities, including pathology and genomic medicine. Mahajan Imaging, meanwhile, has built a strong presence in advanced imaging and diagnostic services. Bringing these capabilities together could create a broader platform for combining imaging, pathology and molecular information.

For patients, the potential benefit is straightforward: wider access to specialised diagnostics, faster reporting and more connected information for doctors.

For the healthcare industry, the bigger story is the movement towards integrated diagnostics, where imaging, pathology and genomics work together rather than operating as separate services.
