Kanpur: In a renewed push to strengthen routine immunisation and prevent outbreaks, the Kanpur health department has announced a district-wide Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign scheduled from February 16 to 27. The drive will target children between nine months and 15 years of age, covering both school-going students and those outside formal educational institutions.
Health officials say the objective is twofold: to close existing immunity gaps and to interrupt potential transmission chains before they escalate into clusters. Schools across the district have been enlisted as primary vaccination sites, with mobile teams deployed to ensure outreach beyond classrooms.
Measles and rubella, though vaccine-preventable, continue to pose public health challenges in pockets where immunisation coverage remains uneven. Authorities have emphasised the safety and efficacy of the MR vaccine, urging parents and guardians to ensure participation.
The campaign forms part of broader elimination efforts aligned with national goals to curb measles and rubella transmission. By concentrating efforts within a defined window, officials hope to achieve high coverage rates swiftly and uniformly.
As public health systems balance routine services with seasonal disease surveillance, the upcoming drive represents both precaution and persistence in safeguarding child health.
