Ahmedabad hosted a coalition of medical associations, technologists and hospital administrators on Sunday to formalize what is being positioned as a guiding framework for the use of artificial intelligence in India’s healthcare system. The declaration calls for ethical deployment standards, clinician oversight, and interoperable data architecture, while urging policymakers to extend AI-enabled diagnostics and decision support to Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities where specialist access remains limited.
Signatories stressed that algorithmic transparency, high-quality training datasets and legal accountability must underpin any clinical deployment. The framework also advocates structured public-private collaboration and capacity building so that practitioners can integrate AI tools without compromising patient safety or professional autonomy.
The move reflects growing institutional consensus that AI can help bridge workforce shortages and improve diagnostic reach, provided governance mechanisms evolve in parallel with technological adoption.
