The Goa government has announced a statewide preventive health screening initiative aimed at identifying lifestyle diseases at an early stage and strengthening the state’s primary healthcare system. The programme will be implemented through primary health centres and community health centres across the state.
Health officials said the screening campaign will focus on early detection of conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and other non communicable diseases that are becoming increasingly common. Residents visiting government health facilities will be encouraged to undergo routine medical checks as part of the initiative.
The government believes that early diagnosis can help reduce complications and lower the long term burden on hospitals. By identifying patients at the primary care level, authorities hope to ensure timely treatment and better disease management.
Medical teams will also conduct awareness activities to encourage people to adopt healthier lifestyles and participate in regular health assessments. The initiative forms part of the state’s effort to shift greater emphasis towards preventive healthcare rather than relying solely on hospital based treatment.
Officials said strengthening preventive services at the community level is essential for improving public health outcomes and reducing pressure on tertiary care institutions. The programme is expected to be rolled out in phases across districts in the coming months.
