Beneficiaries of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana will soon be able to receive treatment at selected cantonment hospitals in Uttar Pradesh following a new agreement aimed at expanding healthcare access for eligible patients.
Under the arrangement, hospitals located in military cantonment areas will provide treatment to beneficiaries of the national health insurance scheme, subject to available facilities and capacity. Officials said the move will help strengthen the network of hospitals available under the programme and reduce pressure on existing empanelled institutions.
Health authorities noted that several cantonment hospitals have well developed infrastructure and specialist services that can support patients covered under the scheme. By bringing these facilities into the Ayushman Bharat network, the government aims to widen treatment options for economically vulnerable families.
The initiative is also expected to improve healthcare access in areas where the number of empanelled hospitals remains limited. Officials said the collaboration will allow better use of existing medical infrastructure while ensuring that beneficiaries receive timely treatment under the scheme.
Ayushman Bharat currently provides health insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalisation to eligible households across the country.
