The Union Government has launched e-Sushrut, a new digital health management platform designed to modernize healthcare delivery at Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs) and small clinics across India. The initiative aims to digitize patient records, streamline hospital administration and improve the quality of healthcare services at the grassroots level.
The new platform will enable healthcare facilities to maintain electronic medical records, manage outpatient and inpatient services, schedule appointments, generate prescriptions and digitize laboratory reports. Health officials believe the system will reduce paperwork, improve efficiency and ensure quicker access to patient information during treatment.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, e-Sushrut forms part of India’s broader digital health transformation under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). The platform is expected to integrate with existing digital health services, allowing healthcare providers to securely access patient information while maintaining continuity of care.
Healthcare experts say digital hospital management systems can significantly improve service delivery by reducing administrative delays, minimizing documentation errors and enabling better coordination between doctors, laboratories and pharmacies. The technology is also expected to strengthen disease surveillance and healthcare planning through improved data management.
Small healthcare facilities, which often rely on manual record-keeping, are expected to benefit substantially from the initiative. Digital systems can simplify patient registration, medicine inventory management and clinical documentation while allowing healthcare workers to spend more time on patient care.
Public health specialists believe digital healthcare infrastructure will play an increasingly important role in improving accessibility and efficiency, particularly in rural and underserved regions. The adoption of standardized digital systems can also support telemedicine, referral services and long-term patient monitoring.
The initiative aligns with India’s vision of building a connected and technology-driven healthcare ecosystem. By expanding digital infrastructure beyond large hospitals, the government aims to improve healthcare delivery at the primary care level, where millions of patients receive their first point of medical contact.
As e-Sushrut is rolled out across the country, healthcare administrators expect the platform to strengthen operational efficiency, improve patient experience and accelerate India’s transition toward a digitally integrated public healthcare system.
