Rajasthan to Launch Free Medical Check-up Scheme for Construction Workers

The Rajasthan Labour Department is set to introduce a free medical check-up scheme for registered construction workers under the Building and Other Construction Workers (BOCW) Welfare Board. The initiative aims to improve healthcare access for thousands of labourers by promoting early detection of occupational illnesses and ensuring timely medical intervention.

Construction workers are often exposed to dust, extreme temperatures, heavy machinery and physically demanding work, increasing the risk of respiratory diseases, musculoskeletal disorders, hearing loss and other occupational health issues. Regular health screenings are expected to help identify these conditions at an early stage, improving treatment outcomes and reducing long-term health complications.

Under the proposed scheme, eligible workers will receive periodic health examinations, including general physical assessments and diagnostic tests based on individual health requirements. Labour welfare officials believe the programme will encourage preventive healthcare while improving awareness about workplace safety and occupational diseases.

Public health experts have welcomed the initiative, noting that preventive health screening is especially important for workers engaged in physically intensive occupations. Early diagnosis can reduce medical expenses, improve productivity and enhance overall quality of life.
