The Union Government has launched Aarogya Setu 2.0, transforming the app from a COVID-19 contact-tracing platform into a comprehensive digital health companion. The upgraded version introduces several new features, including Personal Health Records (PHR), Ayushman Bharat integration, National Health Claims Exchange (NHCX) support and the Unified Health Interface (UHI), making healthcare services more accessible through a single platform.
With the update, users can securely access and manage their digital health records, locate nearby Ayushman Bharat-empanelled hospitals, and access healthcare services through a unified interface. The integration with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) is expected to improve continuity of care by enabling easier sharing of medical information between patients and healthcare providers.
Health officials said the revamped application aims to simplify healthcare delivery by bringing multiple digital services under one platform. The addition of the National Health Claims Exchange is expected to streamline health insurance claim processing, while the Unified Health Interface will allow users to discover healthcare providers and services digitally.
Healthcare experts believe integrated digital platforms can reduce paperwork, improve patient convenience and strengthen continuity of care. Digital health records also enable doctors to access previous medical history more efficiently, supporting faster diagnosis and informed clinical decision-making.
The launch is part of India’s broader digital healthcare transformation under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. Over the past few years, the government has expanded digital health infrastructure through ABHA IDs, telemedicine services and electronic health record systems to improve accessibility and healthcare delivery across the country.
Public health specialists note that secure digital platforms can enhance healthcare coordination, particularly for patients receiving treatment from multiple hospitals or specialists. They also help improve transparency, reduce duplication of medical tests and strengthen long-term health management.
Officials have emphasized that user privacy and data security remain central to the platform, with health records shared only through user consent. The new features are expected to encourage wider adoption of digital healthcare services while making essential medical information available whenever required.
The launch of Aarogya Setu 2.0 marks another milestone in India’s digital health journey. By integrating health records, insurance services and healthcare discovery into one application, the platform aims to make healthcare more connected, efficient and patient-centric.
