In a move aimed at strengthening integrative healthcare delivery, the government has announced that construction of dedicated AYUSH hospitals will begin across seven districts. The initiative seeks to expand access to traditional systems of medicine, Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy, alongside conventional medical services, positioning preventive and holistic care as a more visible component of the public health framework.
Officials said the new facilities are intended to improve local healthcare access, particularly in districts where specialised services remain limited. By institutionalising AYUSH infrastructure at the district level, the government hopes to reduce pressure on tertiary hospitals while promoting early intervention, lifestyle-based therapies and community-level wellness practices.
The project also reflects a broader policy push to formally integrate traditional knowledge systems into mainstream healthcare delivery. Supporters argue this could widen patient choice and encourage preventive health-seeking behaviour, especially in rural and semi-urban regions.
Each hospital is expected to provide outpatient and inpatient services, therapeutic procedures and wellness programmes rooted in recognised AYUSH disciplines. The rollout signals continued public investment in alternative and complementary medicine as part of India’s evolving healthcare model, which increasingly emphasises accessibility, plural systems of care and preventive health strategies.
