Sudden Temperature Changes Linked to Respiratory and Muscle Complaints
Doctors across several Indian cities are advising people to avoid prolonged exposure to extremely low air-conditioner temperatures during the ongoing heatwave season, warning that sudden temperature shifts may trigger respiratory discomfort, headaches, throat infections, and muscle stiffness.
Medical professionals say many individuals are moving directly between intense outdoor heat and heavily air-conditioned indoor environments, creating stress on the body’s ability to adjust to rapid temperature changes.
Hospitals in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru have reported an increase in patients complaining of dry throat, sinus irritation, body pain, headaches, and fatigue linked to prolonged indoor cooling exposure over recent weeks.
Doctors note that poor AC maintenance and inadequate ventilation can also increase dust circulation and indoor air quality concerns, particularly in offices, malls, and enclosed commercial spaces.
Children, elderly individuals, and people with asthma or respiratory sensitivity are considered especially vulnerable during periods of extreme temperature variation.
Health Experts Recommend Balanced Cooling and Hydration Habits
Physicians are advising people to maintain moderate room temperatures instead of using excessively cold settings for long durations.
Experts also recommend regular hydration, short outdoor adjustment periods before entering cold indoor spaces, and periodic cleaning of AC filters to reduce respiratory irritation risks.
Public health specialists say indoor cooling remains important during severe heatwave conditions, but excessive exposure without proper ventilation may contribute to avoidable health problems.
Several doctors have additionally warned against sleeping for extended hours directly under strong AC airflow, especially during nighttime temperature fluctuations.
As heatwave conditions continue across multiple states, health authorities are expected to maintain advisories focused on hydration, temperature management, and preventive summer healthcare awareness.
