In the financial year 2025–26, Haryana screened 12.4 lakh individuals for HIV, identifying 5,877 positive cases — a figure that underscores both the scale of testing undertaken and the continuing public health burden of the infection in the state.
The screening drive forms part of an expanded testing strategy, with the state strengthening its diagnostic infrastructure through the deployment of mobile testing units and integrated counselling and testing centres. These measures are aimed at widening outreach, particularly among vulnerable and hard-to-reach populations, while encouraging early detection.
Alongside increased screening, Haryana has also sought to enhance treatment access by expanding Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) facilities. The strengthening of ART services is critical to ensuring that those who test positive are not only diagnosed but retained in sustained care, thereby reducing transmission risks and improving long-term health outcomes.
While the numbers reflect a significant public health effort, they also highlight the persistent need for sustained awareness, stigma reduction and uninterrupted treatment delivery. Expanded testing without parallel investment in counselling, follow-up and social support risks limiting the broader impact of the intervention.
