The Punjab government has joined hands with Roche to launch a programme aimed at improving support and treatment for people living with multiple sclerosis, a chronic neurological disorder that often goes undiagnosed in its early stages.
The initiative, called NeuroSakhi, seeks to build a structured support system for patients through improved awareness, early detection and coordinated treatment pathways across healthcare institutions in the state.
Multiple sclerosis affects the central nervous system and can lead to symptoms such as fatigue, mobility problems and vision impairment. Health experts say delayed diagnosis and limited access to specialised care remain major challenges for patients in India.
Officials associated with the programme said NeuroSakhi will focus on strengthening the link between neurologists, hospitals and patient support networks. The initiative is also expected to improve counselling services and disease management support for patients and their families.
The collaboration reflects a broader push by state governments to partner with global pharmaceutical companies and healthcare organisations in order to improve specialised care for complex and chronic diseases.
Health authorities said initiatives of this nature can help close gaps in neurological care while ensuring that patients receive timely diagnosis and consistent treatment.
