NHRC seeks report over newborn death linked to alleged medical negligence in Jharkhand

The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of a reported newborn death in Jharkhand, where allegations of medical negligence and lack of timely treatment have raised concerns over patient care at a public health facility.

According to reports, the infant died shortly after birth amid claims that proper medical attention was not provided at the hospital. The incident drew attention after details surfaced in media reports pointing to lapses in handling the case.

Taking note of the matter, the Commission has sought a detailed report from the state authorities. Officials have been asked to explain the circumstances surrounding the incident and the steps taken by the administration following the death.

The NHRC has also directed the concerned authorities to examine whether established medical protocols were followed and whether the family received adequate assistance from the hospital.
