Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh is preparing to deploy artificial intelligence across its public health system in a move that signals a shift from reactive treatment to early detection and prevention.
At a recent state-level review, senior officials outlined plans to use AI tools for screening and tracking non-communicable diseases such as cancer and diabetes. The approach seeks to strengthen primary care by identifying risks earlier and easing the burden on tertiary hospitals.
The state is also working to decentralise cancer care, with proposals to expand treatment facilities beyond major urban centres. Officials indicated that data collected through digital health platforms would be used to guide policy decisions and resource allocation.
The push comes amid growing pressure on public health infrastructure and a rising incidence of lifestyle diseases. By integrating technology with frontline services, the government aims to improve outcomes while making care more accessible at the district level.
While timelines and implementation details are still evolving, the emphasis on preventive healthcare marks a notable shift in the state’s strategy.
