Chandigarh: A sharp rise in heart-related deaths among young adults in Haryana has emerged as a public health concern, with official data indicating a significant number of fatalities in the 18 to 45 age group over the past few years.
Records show that thousands of deaths linked to heart attacks and heart failure have been reported since 2020, averaging several fatalities each day. The trend has drawn attention to a demographic traditionally considered at lower risk for severe cardiac conditions.
Despite the scale of the increase, there has been no comprehensive state-level study to examine underlying causes. Health experts point to a mix of factors that may be at play, including lifestyle changes, stress, sedentary habits, and possible post-pandemic health complications.
The absence of granular data has made it difficult to frame targeted interventions. Public health specialists have called for detailed epidemiological studies to better understand the pattern and identify high-risk groups.
The findings have renewed calls for stronger preventive strategies, including routine screening, awareness campaigns, and early intervention, particularly among younger populations.
